I am looking for any articles related to injury rates on improperly installed or poor quality field turf. I've seen an increase in injuries with our soccer team after they began to play on a brand new field. I've played on it, and it seems way to soft, and I tend to be very sore after playing on it. On top of the feel of it, it is made of a material that I swear is the same as used to make hawaiian leias from like a party store. It is very slipperly even with cleats.

A couple of years ago one of the local football stadiums replaced thier astroturf and too much padding was put under it. At that time they had around a 200% increase in acute injuries. I'm just wondering if i'm seeing just the tip of the iceburg so far.

i guess it is sacrificing acute injuries to prevent future wear and tear injuries from the hard turf, interesting..a lot of research has been done on footing, but mainly for horses, they basically twist their ankles if footing is too soft

Ptace, I haven't seen any good research on this. I will do my homework though to see what I come up with though.

Thanks for the replies. I've been doing a little research of my own since my last post. I've been in contact with the major PT groups in my area and have asked what they have been seeing. So far there has been a total of 15 ACL tears reported that occured on this turf. Actually, it's 16 now because my sister just tore her ACL on tuesday during a game.

As a former college running back whose team switched to artificial turf between my 2nd and 3rd seasons, I can tell you with certainty injuries rose. Many as direct result of the new turf. I tore my Acl and I'm quite sure if I were playing on natural surface, the extent of my injury would not have been as significant. There is less give, also sometimes you cannot slide as easy.
When it happened to me foot felt like it adhered to the surface and as a result my knee gave as a result of the hit.
