For those who have seen this injury what are typical liting and motion precautions for cervical and shoulder if any.

Have a gal 2 weeks s/p first rib fracture secondary to MVA.  Only info on the script was shoulder pan with arm movement but no suggestions on protection/guidlines for rehab.

Any suggestions.  I seem to get this a lot with fracture care - that is no communication.  IMO the MD needs to be communicating restrictions based on healing of fracture - am I wrong on this.

It is never the broken rib that causes the pain. Never. It lies in the muscle. Sorry I couldn't resist. I hope people quickly return to the serious postings instead of the recent "distractions"

I can't help with specifics, but I have had similar frusterations. I had a patient from a trauma surgeon who had a grain elevator fall on her pinning her between it and her tractor with ribs 3-5 fracture and lung puncture.  It was impossible to get anyone from his office to return my calls on lifting or other restrictions (just happy she was still breathing I guess) and she wanted to go back to working on the farm ASAP.

What kind of pain is your patient in and what other functional issues is she having"
