I thought there was something kind of recently about exercise and Muscular Dystrophy. Searched Medline, and found a lot about respiratory training, but limited amounts on other types of exercise. From the few I found, looked like exercise was not found to be harmful, and sometimes increased strength and fuction. One nice longitudinal study from one center on stretching/splints/plantarflexor lengthenings prolonging the ability to ambulate. Sorry about the lack of citations, kind of in a hurry.

Anyone work with MD type clinics? What are some thoughts/experiences on exercise with Duchenes Muscular Dystrophy? Wasn't there some research fairly recently? Can't seem to find it.

The most amazing thing for Duchanne Dystrophy:

Diflazacor

They used to be doing some research with this at University of Rochester a few years back, but I think the study has since been discontinued.

Only problem is that you can't get the drug in this country. Kids in Canada and Mexico may have it better in this respect.

P.S. I've got some stuff on MD and exercise . . . it may take me a while to dig it up though 'cause I'm in the process of moving. In the meantime, the MD association webpage usually has information about research in progress and local MD specialists.

Thanks for the response. Don't know why I didn't think of the MDA website! There was a good summary of the current rehab philosophy, well referenced.
