I do home health in a rural setting, about 60% of my caseload is peds. For years I've been using my own toys, homemade balance board, etc. I finally got the OK from my administrator to purchase a very limited amount of equipment to use during the peds visits. My main concern is the 2 babies I treat, I know I need a foam roll or bolster. The trouble is, I'm not really sure what type and size I need. I only have one chance to get this right, as I'm sure my company won't approve anything else for a very long time. The roll needs to be the right diameter and length, and fairly lightweight. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Thanks so much

December, no majic formula for a correct size. If you are wanting one for babies, probably the smallest size you can get would work. However, it really depends on what you are using it for. My own bias is that you should try to use materials available to the familes you work with. It certainly does not hurt to have a bolster or two, perhaps a therapy ball; I'm not saying not to have any equipment. But hopefully you are giving the family activities they can do on their own with their child, and special equipment makes it less likely they will be able to carry through with recommendations. Try rolled up towels wrapped with tape for bolsters. Different sized towels = different sized bolsters! Good Luck!
