i have been told that somewhere in the medicare manuals is a blurb about PT following stroke and how strength assessment and treatment is not reasonable and necessary as they deem the "weakness" to be a coordination issue and documentation should reflect this.........im looking for this and not having any luck......any suggestions

hi
Usually I had 2 forms to assess abilities of the stroke by considering their functions. One for good prognosis (Fugl-Meyer),the other one for fair and poor prognosis (SSS).U can read it from these referrences.
Stroke assessment tools
1. Fugl-Meyer,A.R.,Jaasko,L.,Leyman,I.,Olsson,S.,& Steglind,S. :The Post-Stroke Hemiplegic Patient.,I. A Method for Evaluation of Physical Performance.Scand J Rehab Med ,1975; 7: 13-31 .
2.Jorgensen HS, Reith J ,Nakayama H ,et al. "What Determines Good Recovery in Patients with the Most Severe Strokes? The Copenhagen Stroke Study."Stroke 1999,30: 2008-2012
