Hi,

I'm a physiotherapy student at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. Every year there is a conference/symposium held for rehabilition students (PT, OT, speech therapy, and audiology) in Ontario. The conference, called OPSEP, is run by students for students and is held at a different Ontario university every year.

In January 2004 OPSEP will be held at my university. As part of the organizing committee, I am interested in (and responsible for) finding out what topics PT students are interested in hearing about.

So, if YOU were to attend a conference specifically geared to YOU as a PT STUDENT, what would you like to know more about?

Thanks in advance for all your input!

Cheers,
Tim

Hello,
If I were a student attenting this conference/symposium, I would like to see some lectures on proven manual therapy techniques for the lumbar spine and pelvis/sacrum. I would also like to see discussions on new rehab techniques for meniscal repairs/ACL repairs focusing on progression of PT. Differential diagnosis for various conditions would be great as well. Updates on new kinds of surgery for various extremity orthopedic conditions, along with their rehab guidelines.

Hi Tim!

I am actually a Mac grad (1994). Great to see you using this web site...seems like a hot topic in this forum and in the profession is the DPT. What benefits, greater qualifications etc will it provide...good luck with your studies!

Thanks JMA for the input; they're great topics and will be added to the list.

Julie, it was interesting to hear from a Mac grad! A mate of mine from New Zealand graduated from Mac in 1995; he actually encouraged me to go to Mac. Where in CO are you? I lived in Colorado Springs for 5 years (left ~7 years ago) and I'm considering returning there to practice. Do you how easy the process is to get licensed in the USA as a Mac grad? I know each state is different; have you always been in CO? As for the DPT... the Canadian stance is that they will never switch to the DPT... Mac's program is currently a MSc(PT). I believe "never" is a strong word, however. They'll go there, but lag the US quite substantially.

Cheers,
Tim
