I have done a semi extensive search on Medline and not found an adequate answer to my question; You recieve orders from the doctor to ambulate a patient post TIA. The original order states ambulate with BP below 160. At initial eval the patients BP is 180. The doctors states ambulate anyway. The patients BP is now 195/85 (pre ambulation). Is there any research (other than guidelines) which state how high a patients BP can be before they are at greater risk for a stroke etc.? I have found many articles that have the guidelines for what high BP is, but nothing more than that. I am not comfortable getting up a patient whose BP goes over 200. Also this patient is not able to remember baseline BP's and her hospital stay has revealed BP's form 140 to over 200 with meds.
