After my supervising PT took a kinesio taping course he was given a group of "strapping" codes to use for billing, but after many subsequent denials from medicare we have found that these codes are only good if ordered by a physician. What codes do you use to bill for taping?

I usually follow the taping with some simple muscle re-education exercise or instruction and use the code for Neuro-muscular Re-education...seems quite successful, but you have to be sure the documentation supports it.

Include the strapping in the plan of care, get the physician to include it in their script, do what it takes, we give up to easily and keep giving up codes that we should be getting paid on. Exactly what Medicare wants!

If thats all it takes, I think most of the doctors we work with would be willing to do that.

I generally will tape, then exercise the patient in the new joint alignment . . . Neuromuscular Re-Ed.
