I was wondering if anybody here has any info on the possibility of neurogenesis in adult human motoneurons. And, if so, under what conditions. Thanks.

P.S. I'm not a medical professional - just interested.

Try Kemperman, Kuhn and Gage or just Kempermann and Gage in Science, 1999. There is an article on neurogenesis in adults. I'm not aware of any other published work on this.

There is a ton of this stuff going on in private Biotech companies. I'm not sure that anyone is at human trials yet, but that's likely only a year or two off.

The difficulty to date has been taking the stem cells (usually pig OEC's - e.g. olfactory epithelial cells), and getting them to grow in the direction that you'd like. As far as spinal cord regeneration is concerned, current research is focusing upon "bio-guiders" to direct the ends of the severed spinal cord to grow together.

The journals Science and Nature and both good sources of information for this subject.
