Having been at this for 18 years now, I was just interested in what or whose courses you've found to be beneficial. I see mostly backs and would really love to improve the way I work with them.
As for me I've been thru
McKenzie A-D I find it to be OK but dont always get great results
Took Ola Grimsbys Spine, Extremity and Medical Exercise Therapy and loved them all
Enjoyed FO1 and Back Education and Training from Instit. of Phys Art
Ive taken numerous others (alot of the osteopathic type courses) but I'd say Im not all that great with the motion palpation stuff.
I'm interested in your suggestions. Tom

I am not a fan of Paris nor McKenzie. I tend more towards some of the above mentioned. that is the FO1, FO2 etc, the pnf, LPI and CTI all from the ipaconed group or it's "sister" group, I love the Canadians NAOMPT do a Lee a Meadows a Fowler, etc course, Weiselfish has a couple good MET courses for spine, throw in a mulligan course and you should be all set. If you are REAL ambitious take some with the DOs in michigan state. In south FLA we're going to have LPI, CTI , PNF i thik all be here either in ft lauderdale or palm beach gardens...LEE and them will be up in wash dc in the next few months. I want to take grimsby but it is a bit too far to travel for me...

I have taken both LPI,CTI, PNF and found them to be quite useful. One of my colleagues just took BET and said it was really well done. The Maitland (ozpt.com) classes and the Mulligan ones are also very good. I have some of the NAIOMPT videos and they are excellent. It is really too bad that they rarely come east. Erica

Strategic Orthopedics
Lumbar Cervical-Thoracic Headache This course has 4 versions, with the last one being a problem solving course for the complex spinal pain patient. No nonsense, no warm fuzzies, just logical repeated movements approach, concentrating on focus and detail that is missing from other approaches, presented in a way that makes sense. Truly changed my career.

Ben, There is no website. Shocking in today's world, but nevertheless a website doesnt exist. If you call them, You'll get a brochure within a few days with the schedule. Lumbar is prerequisite for all of the courses following it. Steve

John, I too am not great with palpation and have been doing this for 30+ years. I took a seminar by John Iams called PRRT that was fabulous. This PT is teaching things you have never seen but can be amazing in the results achieved. 1-800-945-5865

I have taken several courses at the University of St. Augustine - all excellent. I have two more to take and then certification. Any questions feel free to ask.

My wife has taken a lot of courses through the Univ. of St. Augustine and is getting her DPT through them. It depends a lot on the teacher, some you click with and some you don't. She really liked TMJ with Rocabado.
The one she has been most excited about though has been the Iam's course, she will be going to the Intermediate class next week. It's applicable immediately and has given results with problems that haven't responded to treatment. Two problems with it, it is expensive, and it is different, it takes a different approach to treating pain and there is little direct research to back up the actual techniques, though the theory may be well researched. Some therapists will have a problem with this. I think Barret probably has the same problem. Also, some therapists are more adept with it than others.
She also took some manipulation courses with Rogers she liked and she actually uses more of their approach to manipulation than Paris' which is what she is certified in.

Randy,
No, I don't have "the same problem."
Iams doesn't seem to have the faintest idea what or why he's doing what he does. He can't explain it in biologically plausible terms and he's added absolutely nothing to the literature concerning the management of pain.
It seems he's able to convince some therapists to spend an enormous amount of cash by promising them they will begin to perform miracles. You can imagine what I think of that.

Hello, There was a question asked about the courses taught by DO's from Michigan. I am only aware of one and these are the Philip Greenman courses taught at MSU. Here is the website to see the info: http://www.com.msu.edu/cme/courdesp.html Hope this is helpful. We used his book and some of his principles for our manual therapy classes. His DVD collection is fantastic. Hope this helps

Barrett,
I think you misunderstood the problem I was referring to, that is the perception of it being different causing some therapists to be uncomfortable with it. You have alluded to this problem many times in your posts. Of course, you think Iam's has another problem in that he can't explain why he does what he does. This makes me uncomfortable as well. Iam's is upfront and open about this, which many other practitioners of similar and popular practices are not. I make no arguments whether this is a virtue or not, only that it is different.
I wouldn't want to cause trouble for anyone but I also saw your name as an endorsement in an advertisment for the course with something like " I was impressed and that is saying something"-Barret Dorko
I believe that it was JOSPT but it could have been another magazine. In fact, that is what led me to your website and this forum, since I had talked to you on the Supertraining site. Did you not say this? Was it taken out of context or did you change your mind? I ask because I find this worrisome if it was used inappropriately.

The comment was taken out of context and used as an advertisment without my permission. At my insistance it was never used again.
