Hi there. I graduated from a master's PT program in 1998 and worked only for about 1.5 years before getting married and starting a family. While my son was little, I worked off and on per-diem in all sorts of settings... outpatient ortho, SNF, and inpatient. Since having my daughter 2 years ago, I haven't worked at all. So probably if you total up my work experience over the years, it totals about 2 years.
I'm looking for something else to do with my PT degree. I have a BS in Psychology with minors in Biology and Political Science... then of course the MPT. I just have really found that I'm not really into direct patient care. Nor would I be interested in managing a PT clinic.
Any other options you could advise me on? Publishing/editing PT books/journals? Research? Not sure what I'm qualified to do. I though perhaps some of you might have some ideas :)
Thanks so much, Becky

Research sure not going to usually get paid for that well, Ergonomics consultation, medical sales, PT equipment rep; EMPI, pharm sales (they love health care professionals), marketing for home health care agencies or for big corporate PT chains, home health PT (usually all you do is the intake eval) is kind of easy and flexible, work for the APTA, work for the business side of a big corportae PT chain...about all i can think of that does not involve patient treatment.

Thanks a lot for the response. That gives me some good ideas to investigate. I haven't ruled out going back to patient care, just wanted some other ideas. Its been awhile since I worked, but why does home health PT usually only involve an intake eval? No follow-ups? My grandfather recently had a tota hip replacement, and his home health PT came out maybe 3-4 times.

usually it is cheaper to have a PT do the eval and the PTA do the treatment, but it should be at least 10 visits (that's how the home health agency gets the big bucks). So typically as the PT you just do evals, supervisory visits, and D/C's which is abut 20 minutes at most each visit...so you string 6 or so near each otehr done in 3 hours and get some good cash...

FLOrthoPT, thanks for the information. That makes sense. I've always enjoyed doing evaluations, so that might be a good area to go into. I've gotten some recruiting calls from home health agencies before, so I am guessing there is need for it.
DScarborough, I haven't heard of Life Care Planner before. Thanks for the tip... I will google it :) That's not the same as Dicharge planner or Case Manager?
