I have recently seen a person who complaints of numbness along his anterior distal 1/4 thight to proximal 1/4 leg and paralysis of knee extensor. This person met a RTA, he was slamp forward but suffer no other injuries besides the 2 mentioned above. From what I've read so far my guess is that it may be femoral neuropraxia, but I do not understand why does it only involve the knee extensors since femoral nerve divides into peronal and tibial nerve, sldn't muscles supplied by these nerves be affeted too. I'm really puzzled.

Check your neuroanatomy and that will answer your question.

the common peronial nerve doesnt branch off the femoral nerve. Its half of the sciatic nerve that divides from the tibial nerve at about the poplitial region. The femoral nerve arises from the L4 posterior nerve root division with contributions from L3 & L2. So I believe you can have femoral neuropraxia, and it should only affect the knee extensors. Remember, if its a femoral nerve problem, check the sartorius muscle (also innervated by femoral n) by MMT.
