i didn't want to intrude on the other thread any more than i already had....

an OT i work with insists that PWB means 50% (i thought it meant "partial". the therapist also states that TTWB means 25%. can anyone confirm or deny this, especially with a reference? i had never heard of these definitions. thanks for any replies!

partial doesnt necessarily mean 50%. It just means partial (ie not full)- from my understanding usually to the tolerated level of the patient.
I have no reference, just whats in my head from what I learned in school.
not sure about the 25%, bu then again it depends on your def'ns

No definitive references - depends on continent - country and sometimes province or state....

To add confusion: "to the tolerated level of the patient" is WBAT. PWB is just that - partial weightbearing in need of a definitive % - it is not used anymore with our local Orthopods as they found it too vague.....No kidding! Most often (90% of the time) they will use WBAT
or touch WB (TWB). Depending on the problem/procedure.

Now, having added to the acronym-soup - goodbye. TTYL. LOL

I am familiar with TTWB meaning just the weight of the limb, as in simulating a "nrmal" gait pattern using crutches or a walker. I'm with Sebastian on the PWB: must define a %. Although we can all agree on the difficulty with actually having the motor control, etc to successfully adhere to a %.

Joshua,

I did find one list of definitions on the internet. (www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1521406)

This reference says PWB "is limited and may be up to 50% of body weight."
