I fractured the 4th metacarpal in my right (dominant) hand 10 days ago. The fracture was not displaced, and by all standards is not very severe. I am wearing a removable cast from my 4th and 5th fingertips down to the wrist. As a software engineer, this seriously impedes my typing.

Would it be okay to remove the cast just for typing during the day? Do minor, subtle movements impede healing, or is the cast just there to prevent more acute trauma?

Thanks for any advice,
Brad
