One of the senior Physical therapist at my workplace has a belief that patients with Diastasis Recti should avoid therepeutic exercises targetting Transver abdominus as that would exacebrate Diastasis and Back pain.I have asked him to help me figure the evidence base for it,unfortunately he has not bee able to.My search on pub med using several key words did not get me anything useful.Does anybody has anything that supports or refutes this theory.I am not even clear about the possible mechanisim.Any thoughts.

Mechanically, when engaged, the only muscle that can approximate the edges of Diastasis Recti to effect the closure are the rectus abdominus muscles. The transverse abdominus muscles insert in to the rectus sheath anteriorly. Thus, when the TrA muscle engage they produce a seprating effect upon the diastasis recti. Do you Agree ,Diagree,or Know any experimental evidence refuting or substantiating the claim.
