I am a physiotherapist in London working with patients who suffer from Haemophilia. I am trying to set up a pre-operative physiotherapy assessment/ information pack to give to patients before their Total Knee Replacement. I have found that post-operatively, this patient group doesn't do as well as patients wil OA or RA and am wondering if a formalised pre-operative physiotherapy assessment and possible short period of intervention would be of benefit. Has anyone done a similar thing? WOuld be great to hear from anyone who has. Thanks. Gill

Haven't seen anything myself, personally, but cannot see how it would not help. Trying to teach these patients crutch/walker ambulation and exercise when they are sore, swollen, influence by meds, and ticked off isn't easy. A simple program of pre-op PT to maximize their strength and even motion before surgery, along with letting them practice their gait skills when they can focus more would be nothing but beneficial.
