To all DC's,

My research is completed. I just wanted to share this side. I'm a DPT student and knew nothing about chiropractors before entering school. I have done my own research b/c ever since I have been affiliated with PT, I have been questioned by the public about my feelings regarding Chiropractic.
Therefore, I felt it was my duty to research Chiros so I could give an honest critique. At first, my feelings in regards to DC's were of that I felt for optometrists, dentists, etc. Lots of school and dedication, so respect was in order. DC’s were around before I was even born. I read lots of articles, read lots of forums, and tried not to be biased. In the end, I can't help to be biased, and I don't understand why any qualified student would choose to attend DC school (if they do their own research). I will admit, it has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I will say there are "good" DC's out there, but it is rare. For heaven's sake, There are DC's that are on the healing arts boards that oversee PT's.

I agree all professions have good and bad sides. But none even compares to DC's. The biggest problem and fishy thing I see about DC's comes from their own kind and current/former students. For example,

" Albert,

I am a current first tri student at Palmer in Davenport. From what I can tell about your beliefs about subluxation theory, you are about to enter Palmer with the same mentality I had. I was and am a very evidence based, science oriented student. I thought I would come to Palmer to receive the "best" education to be the best chiro I could be, and that I could choose to not hear all the BS thrown at me. Well, to be quite honest, it took a mere two weeks of classes here at Palmer for me to realize that BS is what Palmer specializes in...as "the fountainhead" of chiro, Palmer likes to force piles upon piles of outdated and outlandish philosophy down its students throats on a dailt basis. This has comepletely turned me away from not only Palmer, but chiropractic as well. Not only that but its disheartening to look around at all of my classmates and see that the majority of them just eat up the BS and take everything they hear as prophetic. Not everyone, but definitely most people. As someone mentioned earlier, you could go ahead and be the proverbial stick in the mud here, but its more difficult than you think to feel like youre the only one with any common sense in an entire classroom. Personally, Im taking the steps now to get out of here. If you, unlike me, definitely want to stay in chiropractic though, I would reccommend a more science oriented school like NUHS. Ive heard over and over that they have the best science program and the best up and coming program. Admittedly I have never checked it out on my own, but Ive heard only good things."

This is only one example, but this type of talk is all over the place. There are tons of students who drop out of DC school because of problems like this. You see this in no other profession. Practicing DC's that wish they got out or could get out of the profession. Believe me, I have looked for it in the PT profession especially, but can't find it. Some do switch professions, but not b/c of ethical concerns.

I just thought I would share this, my intent is not to put down chiropractors at all. I don’t think it serves either profession well to bash at each other--chiroweb bashes PT‘s, even calling them technicians. I know DC's can't all be quacks--or they wouldn't exist or be on boards. Chiropractors even employ PT’s.

So , when someone asks my opinion, I do speak about the "Dark Side" of the profession--but it comes from it's own people---I use no arguments that come from PT's, MD's, DO's. The profession of chiropractic does have the darkest side of them and it stems from it's own people. You will not find this in any other profession. That to me, is the biggest problem with DC’s, it’s not the way they practice, but what they teach.

I don't think this thread is helping interprofessional relations any. Haven't we been over this material before.
Let's let it die, shall we?

not sure why you posted this. was this supposed to be an editorial or just cathartic?

i'm for free speech so i don't think the moderators should ban these posts but perhaps put them in their own section (this website seems to have a ton of sections already!). from now own, i won't open anything that has DC in the subject. what's the point? wasted energy. life is short.

I agree with Jason. Let's agree to disagree and get on with discussion and exchange for views on a professional level. If any one of our professions had all the answers, the others wouldn't exist. We are all here to learn how to serve our clientele in the best way possible. None of our professions is going to eliminate the others. Let's lighten up and have a friendly, open, educated exchange. Ed
