Caught an interesting article in the advance today.
It seems....like we all suspected....that enrollment is down in most of the programs. This, in and of itself is not a big deal. Enrollement and interest are cyclical and we are in a lull. Tt happens. The proliferation of programs probably did not help.
Lookin at nursing, they are experiencing critical shortages now. However, one interesting point is that enrollment and interest in nursing programs hasn't really increased despite the improving job conditions.
So....what will happen in P.T. Even as things in the field improve.....will it be reflected in program enrollment? I think one of the central issues is the increased expense and time commitment required by the DPT. Currently doesn't match up with clinical realities. Hopefully, in time, the clinical picture will accomodate the additional skills and training.
My question is.....what exactly is the vision for the DPT according to the APTA. What do they envision happening in the field? How likely is this to realized? This is important......and yes.......I am a member.
