Can anyone provide me with a sample of a TMJ protocol? I'm a student!
Thanks, Nelson.

There is a nice chapter on TMJ in Hertling and Kessler's Management of common musculoskeletal disorders.

Good luck.

Hello,
Here is something called R.T.T.P.B that was taught to me. This is used to promote total body relaxation, to decrease pressure in the TNJ, to provide for good head, neck, and back posture and to decrease muscular tension in the jaw, neck and shoulders.
1. Relax: Stop what you are doing. Allow the tension in your bodu to be released.
2. Teeth apart: Say the word "Emma". Let your jaw and mouth drop open slightly and remain in this position.
3. Tongue on roof of mouth: (just above the upper two front teeth). Hold your tongue in a "clucking" position.
4. Posture: Two strings; one pulls straight up from top/back of head to the ceiling; the second "string" pulls up from the breastbone.
5. Breathing: Diaphramatic (or from your stomach). Place one hand on upper chest and the other hand on your stomach. Wehn you breathe in (inhale), the hand on your stomack should move more than the hand on your chest. Imagine that a balloon is being inflated with inhalation and deflated with exhalation. (The balloon is in the abdominal area, not in the chest)
