Hello, There is a very nice book that just came out that you might find interesting. The book is called: Spinal Manual Therapy: An introduction to soft tissue mobilization, spinal manipulation, therapeutic and home exercises by my former professor Dr. Howard W. Makofsky, 2003 Slack Incorporated, ISBN# 1-55642-569-4
Although the title does not mention TMJ, there are two chapters in the book that goes over this topic. He also runs a TMJ clinic in NY. Hope this information helps

There is a very good TMJ chapter in Hertling and Kessler's Management of Common Musculoskeletal disorders.

Duane Saunders has a very good chapter in his book (don't know the name because I loaned to a student and never got it back). Would like to tell you all I know, as I used to treat this quite often, and even got quite proficient as mobilizing the mandible to capture a displaced disc. I always wanted to make a section on my site, and even took the pictures, then couldn't find that book to help. If you have any questions, post them here and I will answer the best I can.
The biggest problem you will face is obtaining payments, as most insurers do not pay for this condition. Also, in more than half of the cases you are just treating the physical manifestation of a psychological problem, which is often neglected.

Hello John, I believe the book that you were referring to is called: Evaluation, Treatment and Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders: Volume 1 Spine by H. Duane Saunders, MS PT and Robin Saunders, MS PT 3rd Edition. This is part of a two volume set. Yes, it is a classic book and should have helpful information as well.

Hello again, Therapeutic Exercise: foundations and techniques 4th edition by Kisner and Colby has two pages on TMJ (627-628). It is more of intervention and relaxation techniques. Might help as well.A helpful adjunct to the other resources listed previously.

Hello, For another good review for the TMJ, I recommend,"Joint Structure and Function: A comprehensive analysis" 3rd edition by Levangie and Norkin, ISBN # 0-8036-0710-5. A very good chapter and review on it.
