I have been treating TMD intermittently and recently attended a "Mini-Residency" at the University of Minnesota. They teamed PTs with Dentists and stressed the importance of having Physical Therapists involved early in the process. It was refreshing to know that some Dental Schools are beginning to recognize our expertise. Does anyone have input on successful interventions for TMD?

yeah treat it like any other dysfuntion. If it is hypermobile stabilize it, hypo mobile mobilize it. Look for signs of C-curve vs S curve, educate on proper activites be it keeping mouth closed when eating (like not taking huge bites (keep tongue onr oof of mouth, etc)Correct the posture, look at C-spine. Talk about stress management. Bite plates or some sort of orthotic from dentist. I did some work with TMJD. We marketed to a dentist when we were slow, got an influx, it was neat, rewarding, just not my thing. Have fun. Ben
