Greetings! I am a practicing PT in the UK who has done a 4 yr. diploma in Physical Therapy in Switzerland. Last year I was staying in the States (my husband is American) and I was turned down by a credentialing agency because I only have a diploma (and not a degree). I really want to practice in the USA, but how???
Anybody know? Other credentialing agencies maybe?

Hello,
I hear of one credentialing agency and that is the FCCPT, called the FOREIGN CREDENTIALING COMMISSION ON PHYSICAL THERAPY at http://www.fccpt.org. Is this the agency that gave you that response? I am not aware of any others but perhaps others have heard of them.

Maybe you can explain the difference between a diploma and a degree. In the U.S., a diploma is the piece of paper you get when you graduate. My friends in other countries use it to refer to a two-year degree, similar to an Associate's Degree here.

I applied to the International Credentialing Associates in Florida. This was was of the credentialing agencies given on APTA's website.

The difference between a diploma and a degree is that my school was a four vocational school which focused only on physical therapy and no other courses 'general' studies. This came after two years of college with general studies. So even though it could be viewed as a Masters it is not acceptable because its not a degree in PT. I wonder if there would be another agency which I could try. Any other foreigners been through this ? Thanks!

I'm willing to apply for credentials to work in US. E.mail me and i can explain couple other agencies where u can get through most likely.

Hi kirandatta9- I couldn't find your email, but I would like to have the contact info of the other agencies you are talking about. Thank you very much.

Depending on the state you're trying to apply, you can have your credentials evaluated by International Consultants of Delaware, FCCPT or IERF. Go to www.fsbpt.org to find out which agency is accredited for the state you want to get a license. You should probably submit your credentials from the schools where you got your diploma in physical therapy and general education units.

Hi Cathlg,

Please contact to us rehab@o2.pl.
I can provide you with information about credentialing.
You can work for us as a PTA after you complete
yor licensing. I know people working for major credentialing agencies. After 2000 hrs working as PTA you can start as PT. I think this would be an option for you.
