It's that time of year again!  Early registration for CSM 2009 has a deadline of December 12th!  Not sure if you'd like to attend and not sure what's being offered?

For those of you who read at a variety of physical therapy sites, I'll highlight a few sessions that might interest you because of your familiarity with either the topic or the presenter.  It's always fun to personally meet the presenters because of what you know about them AND have a quick discussion with them!

Interested in writing or reviewing research papers?  I've heard Dan Riddle speak in the past, and he's part of the panel discussing this topic.

For those of you who are clinical instructors and you sometimes get yourself in a situation of your students knowing more EBP than you... Steven George and Dianne Jewell will be heading that session.  Dianne has been active over at MyPhysicalTherapySpace and she always seems to bring good insight, so if you've read her stuff and would like to meet her, you'll find her speaking at this session.

I love Gail Jensen's work - she's speaking on a topic with a few other colleagues:  From student formation to professional obligation - fostering societal responsibility through community engagement.

If you are a member of the ortho or sports PT sections, you'll be familiar with Michael Ross and his contribution to "musculoskeletal imaging" in JOSPT.  He's speaking on screening for medical conditions that may present as musculoskeletal conditions in physical therapy practice.  Should be a good session!

If I recall Kathleen Mangione recently had a study published on home health physical therapists and their practice patterns in treating patients with total hip arthroplasty.  Anyways, she'll be speaking (with a colleague) on How does this new study apply to MY patient?  Interpretation of clinical research for the practicing clinician.

Years ago before doing a short stint practicing in home health, I went to a weekend CEU course where Wendy Anemaet was the course instructor with another colleague.  Their course was stimulating and dynamic.  I would assume that this time around she and a different colleague will do a memorable job on speaking about strengthening your exercise intervention:  effective use of theraband resistance bands adn achieving adherence to a home program for older adults.

Over on a few PT blogs, if the topic on the effect of diabetes from a cellular to a population level interests you, a whole panel of therapists will be leading a session focused on the topic.

I always enjoy listening to Anthony Delitto speak... he'll be there!  Diagnosis Dialog:  Research and clinical perspectives on Dealing with the "x" in DxPT.  We had a debate right here on Rehabedge about that topic!  Tony is always brilliant.

We had major discussions on marketing and branding... well, what about the quality of cost-effectiveness studies in physical therapy?  Tony Delitto will be involved with this session too!

Oh, oh... we have gone round and round on this one too... is ethics education preparing practitioners to cope wtih commonly accepted, but unethical, contemporary practices in physical therapy?

Hmmm... will this one touch on the never-ending argument of the true rationale for response to treatment?  Translation of basic science research into the clinic: spinal circuits and the musculoskeletal system.

Got an idea for research... make sure you head to the research information exchange center.  Some of the top researchers will be right there at a big round table... take a seat at the table that is of the research topic that interests you and talk/share... it's actually kind of fun and personal.

For those of you who are APTA members, Childs, Cibulka, Godges, Irrgang and White will update those present on using ICF to develop EBP guidelines.  The EBP guidelines publishe thus far have been well done.

A debate over on the EIM blog occurred around the topic of physical therapists as primary care preferred practitioners... you can listen to Childs and Duvall speak on this topic.

Christopher Powers and Shirley Sahrmann will be presenting on lower extremity movement impairments related to knee injury.

Marc Campo used to post here on a frequent basis (I believe life happened and he doesn't have the same amount of time), but he's speaking with a couple of colleagues on body mechanics and the case for safe patient handling.

Todd Ellenbecker, who I believe was mentored by Kevin Wilk, will be speaking with colleagues on the aging athlete's shoulder.

Need assistance with clinical decision-making for patients with low back pain or neck pain?  Childs, Teyhen and Walker will be speaking on this topic.

Last but not least... I finally have the opportunity to speak on outcomes with JW Matheson and Michael Ross.  I'd love to meet any of you who come to this session!  Should be fun.

This year the conference is Las Vegas from February 9-12, 2009.
