I currently live in the NW and am interested in becomming a PT. I am specifically interested in the starting salary range for new PT's? I have checked salary.com, apta.org as well as ptwa.org and haven't been able to find a starting salary. I have been able to locate the median and range for all PT's but no luck with my specific question? Any help would be much appreciated! TIA.

Hello,
Salaries depend on what area of the country you live at. I have seen some posts stating that PTs start between 39k-45k in the northeast area of the US, where PT schools are extremely numerous and PTs compete for jobs. However, here in TX, PTs start anywhere from 48k-53k. Salaries increase with experience, so thats good. We will not get rich, (unless you have your own practice and many referrals), but the potential for great things with our profession is there.

Thanks PTstud. I am going to be the primary bread winner in my household so it is important for me to understand what my income level will be. Thanks for the candor. Are there any hidden costs upon graduation? Are there any benefits that I might not know about?

Hello,
In response to the previous post, you will need to keep one thing in mind. If you go job hunting and they offer you a salary, i.e 47 K per year, this is your gross salary. Take out taxes and social security, you wind up with considerably less, maybe 6-9 thousand less. Whatever is left over is your net salary, what you are really making.
