Has anyone attended any Shirley Sahrmann courses for diagnosis and treatment of movement system disorders? I have her book and have been reading what seems like a sound but rather complicated treatment system in which she attempts to categorize patients into diagnostic categories. Anyone using this system or have familiarity with it. Research?

Thanks all.

Hi Eric:

I have been to two of her courses. She is a dynamic speaker, very entertaining and I think every PT could benefit from seeing her approach in person.

That having been said, her system is complicated. I had trouble following her clinical thought process during her examples. There also seemed to be a lot of posture pictures where the patient was letting their belly sag initially and then sucking it in - in the after photo. They are supposed to be working on validation of their system but I don't see much so far.

Some of the pillars of her system.....1. That poor posture leads to pain and that 2. With positions and activities, muscles loose sarcomeres in series have very little scientific substantiation.

I went to bring up a different point with her at a course and was dismissed rather quickly.

A third pillar: that all pain comes from joint deterioration.
