Wasn't sure if this was the right forum to post this in, but I was looking for some help. I am looking for some research on the correlation of shoulder instability in patients who have had a previous episode of epilectic seizures. I have found very little research (one article actually) on this and was wondering if anyone has come across this situation in their practice. (Success rate of PT, other underlying pathologies noted with MRIs or Xrays, recurrence of injury, etc). Any help is greatly appreciated. Mike

Posterior shoulder dislocations are classic after seizures, but I am not sure you can make that close of a correlation primarily because it is still exceedingly rare (<1%) of occurances.

I believe that ther is also a higher incidence of a fracture of the glenoid structures with the posterior dislocation as well.

I too had a patient who had a seizure, as a result he sustained a posterior GHJ dislocation, as well as a fracture to the glenoid.

PTChachie, How well did the patient response to treatment? How much function was regained? ANd if any, were recommendations given to go back to the doctor for a second opinion to talk about surgery?
