I have recently had a referral for a patient with a medial sesamoid fracture. She is cuurently using a Cam-walker with a plantar surface great toe cut out to eliminate WB'ing. Has anyone had any experience with a patient of this nature? What kinds of things should be done or avoided for maximizing function, returning to full WB'ing status, pain relief, etc. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hello, You may want to consider a Dancer's pad, made by Hapad, works great with these patients. It can be put over top of a half-steel turf-toe liner to eliminate any extension of the first MTP. As with any other orthpaedic joint, obtain full ROM, strength, and mechanics. Consider iontophoresis for inflammation control. Hope this helps!
