Today another PT was talking about some research on serratus exercises. At one point she referred to a scapular clock and then doing serratus depending on positions in it and also some adjustments to the traditional serratus punch exercise. She stated the traditional exercise ellicited more pec minor activity then serratus and that there were modifications to make it more for the serratus. I didnt have long to talk to her to get more details but she said she would try to find the articles if possible. I did a serach of CINAHL and MEDLINE and didn't come up with much on this exactly .I was wondering if anyone had heard of it or could provide the refferences. I found the following 3 articles however and was wondering if anyone would be able to provide me with copies of the articles.

1.Serratus anterior muscle activity during selected rehabilitation exercises.American Journal of Sports Medicine (AM J SPORTS MED), 1999 Nov-Dec; 27(6): 784-91

2.Electromyographic activity and applied load during shoulder rehabilitation exercises using elastic resistance.American Journal of Sports Medicine (AM J SPORTS MED), 1998 Mar-Apr; 26(2): 210-20

3.EMG analysis of the scapular muscles during a shoulder rehabilitation program.American Journal of Sports Medicine (AM J SPORTS MED), 1992 Mar-Apr; 20(2): 128-34

There was something that just came out in the last 2 years, I think... maybe in JOSPT? I can't remember what journal or exactly what I read.

I have a couple of JOSPT articles I have downloaded but haven't had a chance to read them yet. Don't think they are exactly what I am looking for though.

MPT- Doesn't your library have access to full text articles via interlibrary loan/fax?

It seems this may be an inefficient way to get what you want, considering you are a "student" with the resources of a university to call on....

It does indeed but when you are off on clinicals and they are not available via full text online, they have to mail them to you which takes forever. Oh well.

umm, they could be available full text online. My sister in-law is a professor at Bowling Green University in Ohio (too bad they don't have a PT department)... but anyways, she gave me her log in information because she can log in at any location and have access to everything she could at the libary. Our hospital system was the same way... I had to be granted a log-in and a password and anything that was full text online was available to me at home.

Contact your library... I'm sure they may have the same kind of set up.

The school use ebsco for searching and if full text is available it has a link to it. If my school had full text access to any of those journals I would have downloaded it from them. I know how to do journal searches and find the articles by now, if there was a more efficient way to get them I would have done it before asking here. All articles I have requested were not available full text through my library, were not available through any clinicians at my current clinical, and would take at least 2 weeks or more for me to recieve from the school as it would have to be sent to my home address and then I would have to drive home on the weekend to pick it up. Anyways it appears as though people prefer that I do not request articles from here, so in the future I will refrai from doing so. Going back to the origional question though, is anyone familiar with the research I was speaking of? While I have came up with what should be some interesting reads, I do not believe I have found the specific articles that the other PT was referring to. Thanks again.

I did email you some specific JOSPT articles that were sEMG articles dealing with serratus anterior recruitment.

Personally, I don't have access to the journals you are requesting. I just thought Jason had a good point and then I remembered what my sister in-law told me AND that the hospital I worked at had the same kind of deal.

Neither Jason nor I were insinuating that you shouldn't ask... I've asked for journal articles and received quite a few times. I believe we were just giving you other alternatives that if you didn't think about them or know about them, then it might have been helpful for you.

Student,
Check your inbox. Sports Med does not carry the early articles (pre-1995) at this time.
