As PT's and PTA's are getting harder and harder to recruit into acute care settings, I am curious as to the salary range offered to 3-4 year "veterans" of the respective fields (PT/LPTA). It seems new grad starting salaries are less of an issue than trying to recruit someone with experience. The "1-2%" increase per year of experience does not seem to cut it, at least not in my area, rural East/South Central US. It seems the big problem is recruiting someone with experience. Anyone care to share how they have been able to do this, salary or other?

Ron, As a former hospital Rehab Director I feel your pain. It is difficult to compete with higher paying settings. When I interviewed candidates I always focused on the many benefits of working in the hospital environment. -Opportunity to rotate to different areas -Work with other therapists/disciplines -educational opportunities/ attend Rounds etc -active department in-service program -supportive environment/mentoring -Career ladder; Education Coordinator, Resource Clinician, Team Leader, Supervisor -Continuing education allowance -Hospital medical and time off benefits usually more generous than other types of settings. I was also very open to any type of flexible schedule as long as it worked for the department. You should check to make sure your pay scale is comparable to other hospitals. It is helpful to be able to let them know how annual increases are done. Are they performance based? What has the average increase been? 1%-2% a year is pretty low. I would think figuring 3%-5% increases to be more reasonable. Good luck
