Just wondering if anyone has any helpful hints for my SI pain. I am 7 months pregnant and want to keep working becuase otherwise I feel great. Started with left SI joint area pain with inital weightbearing and transition from wb with gait. Now it is with every step. Very sharp in nature. My coworkers have tried some posterior rot b/c of ASIS rotation and I have also tried some extension with pillow under my lumbar area with legs extended. These were helpful but only for about 10 min. I also tried Protonics but only helpful for about 10 min although seems to lessen. Earlier in the week it seemed that tilt with the pelvis into extension helped but not now Thanks

Cozziew,
Sounds to me like the relaxin is flowing like mud! As far as helpful hints are concerned, I would suggest that you try a maternity support belt such as the STROK S'PORT Maternity Support(http://www.rehaboutlet.com/1006.htm). As far as any manual therapy to help relieve the pain, I wouldn't venture there at all for fear of promoting further ligamentous laxity. Hope this helped you out a little.

I'd lay off the manual joint therapy...your ligaments and joints are taking enough punishment. Definitely the support belt, and also simple isometrics of every muscle that crosses the SI joint just to get some tone and secondary support....very easy to do when driving, watching TV and even treating your patients!

Cozzziew For a cheaper alternative of support - try Versigrip/Tubigrip size K or L, depending on your body size. Works like a charm, costs a few dollars. It is widely used pre and post-partum in our Women's health area.

not very sure about this stage of the game, but after delivery, i find the dianne lee SI belts to be great, don't forget that relaxin is in your system for up to 9 months after your last breast feeding, so careful, na manual mobs/manips for quite some time, problem is laxity so do your stabilization stuff! Congrats, name it Ben! Ben Galin, MPT, OCS

I should also mention that I have a harrington rod that is fused to L3. Does it sound like it could be affected? I am kinda nervous because I think if it is the rod- may not get better with birth
