Hi all,

I am a PT student in my final year of schooling. One of our assignments is to write a paper using no fewer than 20 research studies on a topic pertaining to PT. The best papers will then be submitted to Hooked on Evidence. I have no idea what to write about. I need a topic that will have research, but not so broad that I can't focus the paper. Please help. Thanks for all your help in advance.

What type of writing assignment is it? Is it basically a literature review?

You are asking a clinical question about a certain intervention(s) you are interested in using for a patient. If you have read the previous ones, written in the PT Journal, you can see the types of questions asked and how one went about doing it. You are looking for evidence, in the literature, that would support or reject an idea(s) for an intervention. Hope this helps.

You can always narrow your topic after starting. There is no topic that ever neatly fits into your project plan. So....pick something you want to read about. If you need less, you can take some aspect of it.

The best thing to do is to take a stab at a topic, do a medline search and set the limit to review articles. You can also look in the cochrane database for systematic reviews. This will give you a good starting point and will point you towards the best studies. Remember to look at the articles separately. Do NOT just reword and rehash the review.

Any further issues, feel free to ask us but don't forget to ask your professor. I am sure they would be happy to help.

Hi everyone,

thanks for the input. I will try to come up with something and start searching tomorrow. And, Mcap, to answer your question, it is a review of the literature, but we are limited to RCT's and other controlled studies to complete the review.
