I am doing a case study on a pt in her late 70's who underwent a R THA for primary OA. I saw her in the hospital on the surgical floor for two days, following THA protocol and precautions before she was discharged to TCU, where she stayed for 7-10 days under the care of a PTA. My questions focus on post-sx PT interventions and evidence-based medicine. *First off, how many elderly patients have you seen in an outpatient setting following THA for OA? *What interventions did you focus on? Do you decide on what you do based on previous experience or on interventions that have evidence to support their use? *What do you use to assess functional limitations and disability in these patients? (i.e. SF36, Harris Hip, 12 Item Hip Questionairre, 6-Min Walk, etc) There are two recent articles out by Trudelle-Jackson et al regarding Outcomes of THA and Effects of a Late-Phase Exercise Program after THA that I am focusing on. If anybody knows more about these articles and their efficacy in clinic, I would love some feedback. Have you had similar results with a similar program? Different program? Any help or insight on good research articles, RCT's, etc., that talk about THA (impairments, functional limitations, disability, proper tools to utilize in treatment to determine progression), I would welcome all with open arms. Thank you.
