Hello all,

This is a group that has just started up in N.J.
They are geared at fighting many of the problems facing physical therapists in private practice today. Please take a look at this today and spread the word if you are a NJ P.T. that owns or works at a physical therapist owned facility.
I intend to attend there next meeting on the 30Sept.2006
If anyone has heard or personally had experience with this society please post.
This group is not affiliated with the APTA or NJ Chapter....but they do recommend you continue participation with your professional membership.
In my mind they are organizing to combat many of the real problems we are faced with....and hopefully take real action as well.

Tom,
I saw your post here so I thought I would chime in as I am the current president of the New Jersey Society of Independent Physical Therapists.
We have indeed formed a new organization here in New Jersey to fight the battle for survival of the independent practice of Physical Therapy. This organization was formed as a Management Service Organization (MSO) whose primary mission is advocacy on behalf of independent practitioners. Our members are our shareholders and the Board of Directors are current member volunteers who provide direction to our paid staff of experienced professional affairs representatives, legal counsel and legislative representative.
With reimbursement and insurance coverage from the five largest NJ health insurers now paying $50 or less per visit with copays that are 60-100% of the benefit, the current system no longer can support the provision of legitimate professional Physical Therapy services. Thusly we have established and implemented an aggressive legislative and legal strategy to restore some sense to the current reimbursement and insurance coverage arena as well as addressing concerns regarding ownership of Physical Therapy services.
The NJSIPT formed only in June 2006 now represents over 60 committed members and over 75 clinics and continues to grow on a daily basis.

Tom, as for your last statement, there is no hope to it, we ARE taking action. The wheels are already in motion. Our success depends on financing and whether we are willing to exert our will to make a difference. The time for meetings to have meetings and discussing and venting and... is over. This is a call to action.

I wish you guys all the success as PTs in CA, we only talk and complain about our situation, you guys are taking action. I would want to mimic what you are doing in NJ...maybe one day we will.

As membership chair of the California Private Practice Special Interest Group (CPPSIG), I believe we have a core group of members that would also like to see some change in CA.
Goodlooks58, are you a member?
Bottom line is that no one is going to do it for us.
We have to leverage our numbers and affect a change.
Sounds like we could learn a bit from NJ.
