stupid things, fire extinguishers, exit plans on walls in case of fire, towels not open to open air, some really good charts for them to look at (all in compliance), first aid kit readilly available, licenses on the wall, occupational license etc...have fun!

Mostly I believe you need to get your Policy and Procedure manuals ready, and get your charts in order. Make sure that you have physician referalls, discharge notes completed, all dates in order etc. As Ben suggests, get a few charts that are really good and they may ask you to just give them some charts to look at.

HIPAA is probably going to be big too.

This visit can make or break your business. If you messed up well that means 5 years of full chart audit and hundreds of thousands in medicare takebacks. And by the way Medicare is going to be paying visits to nearly all home care agencies because of recent political and economic cutbacks. If Medicare is visiting you it is looking to take back some serious money. I work for 2 home health care agencies and they are under 100% chart review audit. These are very good agencies. In one instance, Medicare went back to 2004 charts and took back 35,000 dollars after only 200 charts. Rehab departments were the worst hit under Medicare, possibly because rehab services are the biggest money makers, and are also subject to many interpretations. All I can say is I hope you had your house in order.
And this is on the side, but as a home care physical therapist the guidelines I used in 2002-2003 to base frequency, duration and necessity of services has also drastically changed. Now, If you cannot provide any education or change in patient's current status and PROVE significant functional improvement from VISIT to VISIT your chart can be refused for reimbursement. Just coming up with a physical therapy exercise program is absolutely not enough.
In our agencies Medicare also collected data on exact time of each visit per minute. This data might be used to determine future reimbursement rates tied to how long each patient is seen relating to different diagnoses.
I can go on and on, but for now GOOD LUCK!
