My 17 y/o son got his finger stuck in a facemask during spring football about 1 month ago and avulsed the extensor tendon. After football was over I splinted him in a pre-made stax splint from sammons preston. He didnt like the plastic only feel so I put some moleskin on the inside.

Main problem is that it gets wet and smelly so every now and then I swap it for a basic aluminum finger immobilizer while the other one dries out. Question...is their a better way/ Or better splint? Im not sure if a custom made will be a whole lot better but I may be wrong. Problem is, he can cover it in shower and should do a better job but it still gets sweaty as he has started summer workouts down here in the heat of south florida?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

What ever option you choose in my experience the success you generate is tied to keeping that distal segment as maximally extended as possible. The response positively also seems tied to there being some small amount of boney tissue to guide the regrowth.
