I have been injuried to 4 years......This is a post asking for someone to help me. I have tried massage, pt, chiro and even my family doctor (without insurance...out of pocket this becomes a commitement). I am hoping that someone will take it as a personal challenge to figure out my problem, because there HAS to be something wrong. I will leave this post as such....a plea since I am not sure if this is even acceptable behavior I hate to sound needy but I am at my wits end with this injury. Prior to hurting myself I was super active, now I feel like the problem goes from mid to lower back....back up again. It seems to effect the whole shoulder girdle (I seem to have alternating shoulder injuries) Thank you to all who read this and I am sorry to invade your professional forum with this...i used to post questions as a personal trainer and exercise specialist when I worked with a PT clinic. I have talked to that business and I felt like I didnt get any better service then our patients which is why I left....Now I am 32 years old and work as a volunteer (part-time) fire fighter.

There are some questions that need to be answered before determining anything: How were you injured? Where were you injured? What did the massage therapist, chiro, and family doctor do for you? Does your pain last all the time or does it only occur when active?

Sorry to hear about your trouble finding answers and help for your condition. I assume all the "red flags" have been taken care of? Bloodwork, x-rays, even MRI? This is probably not good to read, but: it looks like you need to find some PT in a multidisciplinary team who is well versed in persistent pain management and treatment. No matter what the original cause of your complaint, after 4 years you can be assured that peripheral and central nervous sensitisation has occurred, neuromuscular patterns have significantly changed and are now likely adding to the stresses on the nervous system. The fluid status in your joint may be affected, the neck is by now involved...I could go on. Looking for a single (t)issue at the basis of your pain is now a moot point. Your frustration plays a role, and the anticipation and fear of pain plays a role in its maintenaince....You can see how this is complex, convoluted and requires some pharma help and a lot of education in all forms. Learning about pain is the first step. There are Pain dedicated websites that may help you on the way. Here is one: http://www.iasp-pain.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Publications&Template=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm&ContentID=1693

Here's a link to a group of PDF files created by Jason Silvernail about pain - good and relatively easy to read. http://somasimple.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5332

(Edit) I wrote all this..and didnt answer an important question...its not that i even have pain. Its that I always feel as if my back needs to pop. And that I keep injuring myself which I never used to do..i never hurt myself before, now I seem to be very fragile. Fitness and sports was my life, and now I feel I can't do it anymore cause everytime I try I hurt myself...That is why I seem so urgent not really because of the physical pain. Anything that you might consider "pain" is just "tightness" maybe this is part of my problem with dealing with doctors and stuff in the past? I dont see it as pain. I work as a part time fire fighter, and we give people a 1-10 scale. I always shake my head when someone says they have 10/10 back pain and can talk and walk. I would say its a 2 or 3. Its not really pain, its "weakness" and discomfort. Thank you both for your replies....I will read the information regarding pain and I will try to answer the questions posted about what happened. I was playing "kickball" Seattle washington has various "kid" sports for adults and this is one of them....(shakes head....I know I have been told to change it to something other then kickball). I dove into home plate and landed on one side of my body (elbow and knee). Didnt think anything about it...felt fine. The next day I had a burning sensation in my around my L scapula and rear deltoid. Its awhile ago...but I am pretty sure I also had tightness in my mid back (thoracic area)....The burning sensation went away after about a week but the tightness remained. I went to the chiropractor and he did x rays and said they all looked fine....We scheduled a series of adjustments. Throughout the following monthes I would have lower back issues when the mid back seemed better and vis versa....It seemed to alternate. I have not had any lower back issues recently but the mid back has remained. It always feels like it need to adjust, as if I would feel better if it would only pop. I can bend forward and hear/feel a pop, my chiro told me that is just loose ligaments not the vertebra themselves. Also, if I role on my back it often "pops" but never where it feels it needs to. I went to my family doctor who didnt really take it seriously, the injury happened when I was 28...I am 32 now. Many people told me that as I get older I will have "aches" and "pains" due to my active lifestyle...I felt dismissed (NOT my family doctor anymore) I got a second opinion from another chiro he told me same thing that my family doctor did. I hope this stays on track....I tend to ramble, but its also 4 years of information. I was never suggested blood work or an MRI. Along with the mid back (shoulder girdle issue) I feel as if my shoulders are injury prone. I was feeling better (mid back was tollerable....I had decided that a bit of tightness was what I had to live with)...I went and played football with some friends and dove for a catch...Again felt fine all day but the next morning my left shoulder was sore. I could not externally rotate my arm to the side to pick up a small cup of coffee. This is where I tried a PT, he told me that it was not a rotator issue...since I didnt feel any pain here or there. Gave me a basic program but never addressed the back despite me mentioning it. He said that I needed stability work is all. I followed his program, however thought it was cookie cutter advice since I have never injured myself like this before and I used to have VERY strong shoulders. I dont understand why all of a sudden I would need stability work. I understand they are different but I have been active all my life, lifting weights since I was 16. First I did power lifting then as I got older my just for health by working in boxing and other forms of cardio. Again I rest, walking only....slowly work back into jogging and light exercises. Everything is feeling pretty good, start boxing (training only) again. I would jump rope do rounds on the heavy bag with alternating crunches and push ups in a circuit. I tell you all this just so you see I was not acting like a jerk, jumping right back into an ego driven "how much can I bench attitude".... I advanced back into a weight program. L shoulder not giving me any issues...back still feels tight and like it wants to pop (but I figured that was my life) I had been slowly working up to it for 3 monthes every other day or so doing a light total body workout. On bench the previous work out I had done 215 for 6 reps and was not sore at all......So the following work out I did 135x12, 185x8, 210x6, 215x6 felt good and realitively easy.....tried 220 1,2,3 4th rep my R pec (spasmed?) and I dropped the weight ASAP and iced it (I have a gym at home) within a min. It seemed really weak no bruising. I didnt go to the doctor becuase I dont have insurance and my previous experiences have left me faithless:( regarding them being helpful anyways (I am thankful that you are taking the time to listen to me...its just that I feel as if I was never given a straight answer yet I was still charged everytime I went either chiro, dr, or pt) I am skeptical but right now I am on some "really good" vitamens and a Cal/Mag supplement that are supposed to help with relaxation. One of the layman symptoms that I tell all the people I talk to is that my back used to have NO KNOTS!! my gf or others would massage it and say whole amazing it was that I had no knots....Now its a disaster zone.
