Hi, First time member here. Any suggestions for me. I am a PTA and would like to branch off into another area in PT. Not able to further PT degree at this time. Thinking about fitness trainer or massage therapy or some other alternative medicine field. Please share your ideas. Live in small area and right now I am not working full-time, although I am employed as a PTA. Please HELP!!!!!

I manage a large fitness and rehab facility. I am migrating my PTA's into the fitness world using them as "experts" to teach classes and lead groups.
I would suggest you further your training and marketability by taking one day or weekend courses in PACE (people with arthritis can exercise)or any Athritis foundation certifications. Also of value are "body recall" certifications as well as the various personal trainer certifications. I would give anything to find a licensed massage therapist with a PTA background. Good Luck.

There are several organizations that certify Personal Trainers. The ones I like are American College of Sports Medicine (www.acsm.org), the National Sports and Conditioning Association (www.nsca-lift.org), and the American Council of Exercise (www.acefitness.org).
The American Massage Therapy Association may be helpful @ www.amtamassage.org.
Good luck. Feel free to e-mail me directly if you have other questions.

There are so many things that you can do with all your clinical knowledge if you can try and be open minded. I had thought about starting a part time business to help some of my patients that need help setting up there home with grab bars and ramps ect, charge a small home evaluation fee and then hire a handyman to do the work while keeping a small commision. I knew a PTA that had her husband do the work.

Depending on where you live, golf rehab is a big businesss, offer stretching programs to the golfers before tournements or on a Sat morn.

You could always find a PT and contract to the home health agencys to suppliment your part time status.

Wheelchair companies and DME companies love PTs and PTAs, I know a PTA who now is in charge of the PTs that he used to work under.

You can work for medicaid as a oh, I cant think of the word, but anyway, you basically babysit for disabled who have caretakers for 15.00 per hour on your free time, if your interested let me know, I have the paperwork somewhere.

Have to go have an apt, good luck in all that u do, e-mail me if you have any questions. K
