Hello, Ever since highschool I have wanted to be a PT. I was recently accepted to the TX TECh MPT program, which I was very excited about. I was aware that the profession had suffered a bit, but did not know the exact reasons and still thought that it was something minor. However, since visiting this site and this board, I am now scared and having some serious doubts. I see that many of the posts were posted in 2000, and I want to know if there is any hope for us. I know about the Medicare cap due to the "Balanced BUdget Act" but I have also seen on APTA that the cap is in temporary suspension (this has improved the job market) and that they are trying to pass some legislation that will eliminate the cap. I want to know if this legislation is passed, will the PT profession return to its previous prosperity? This cap is the only thing I am aware of that caused the downfall of the PT career by limiting reimbursements for Medicare patients and causing nursing homes to lay off their Pts because they could no longer afford them. PLEASE, I NEED THE TRUTH...
