hello..this is my very first post i am a 17 year old african american student at a high school in NY. and i am somewhat confused on what courses i should take for college to eventually become a physical therapist. i have an option to take a two year course to become a PTA..but i dont think my credits will transfer therefore i would have to do another 4 years for a bachelors. my question is what subjects should i really focus in to aim em towards my goal of getting into a good graduate school to become a PT..is biological sciences a good major?..or chemistry?..or maybe physics?..i really want to start off as a PTA..what do i need in order to be certified for a PTA job?..HELP!

You can go to this webpage and click on the links on your left. There you should be able to see the different programs and what they require for PT school. Hope this helps.

I would recommend taking the pre-reqs for PT even if you do PTA first. As long as you don't put off PT school for too long the credits should all be transferable. See the specific PT programs for requirements but thay all resemble this... General College Chemistry I and II General College Physics I and II or Kinesiology or Biomechanics General College Biology Anatomy and Physiology Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology , Anthropology) PTA is a 2 year degree. see http://www.apta.org//AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home good luck

I recommend picking an undergrad degree you will do well in and tag on the pre-reqs. If you want to be a beast (correct thinking individual), take up Philosophy as your major. PT is hungry for critical thinkers.
