So... My GF came to me with an old injury that has never completely heal...this is breaking news for me too.
Her left ankle sort of gives in... When looking at her playing soccer i know the ankle has never healed because of her mechanics, not using hamstrings enough to stabilize the impact of the change of directions and a weak lower back to support the rotational motion for a kick or a long pass.
I asked her to do a calf raise with only her left leg and put my fingers touching her side of her foot and i "felt"a sort of ligament movement...er i am not a PT i am just a trainer, so my question is should i put her to do ankle strenght exercises, dorsiflexion, uhmm I know plyometrics is out of the question but maybe some squats, lunges? Or should i ICe it and rest it and made her sit on her ass so it heals? The later is very hard to do i would need to sedate her for her to remain still? Lost of questions i know, i apologize in advance.

She should be evaluated by a PT with experience treating athletes, and receive a structured treatment plan. This is the only logical means of getting to the heart of the matter. Anything else you get would be a guess, and this will get her nowhere. Thorough evaluation and treatment leads to the desired outcomes.
