What is your opinion on frequency of treatment for children involved in an Early Intervention Programs (birth to 3yrs) with gross motor delays of at least 30%? Should a child be seen once a week, once a month, twice a week???

Typically, if the child has atleast a 30% delay, we saw the child as having gross motor concerns worth addressing. If the child was strictly home based, then we usually would see them 2x/week. Again, every case was case specific, but most of the children I saw were 2x/week. At that age, children tend to make so many gains that PT intervention at an increased frequency initially may only need to be for 6 months say......(again, depending on the diagnosis). If a child was in the infant program and had "developmental delay", then maybe 1x/week would be sufficient.... as we could help promote gross motor groups and related activities in the classroom. Rarely did we see a child one time per month.....unless the child was decreased to once per month and we wanted to monitor them without closing the case....or unless certain concerns were there in the eval that the PT wanted to monitor...... because where I am at, it is very difficult to reopen a case if services are not recommended after an initial eval..... so doing once a month would give you the opportunity to see the child again and reassess so to speak.
