I have been watching a lot of football lately and I have a question concerning a brace that I commonly see mostly on linebackers and wide receivers. It is a very thin, rolled, strap that is worn just proximal to the elbow joint. It is usually worn bilaterally. What is it for? It doesn't appear to be large enough to protect the elbow and it doesn't look like it is large enough to absorb or protect against sweat. Does anyone know what they are for? Thanks!

Hello,
Are you referring to what is seen on this webpage? Go to posted link

Personally, I have never paid attention to it until you brought it up. I have no idea what purpose it serves.

I've been told that they are just stretched out wrist sweat bands. No purpose - just for style.

I always wondered what those were. It looks like a cho-pat for the elbow.

Style only, same function as the tatoo of the twisted barbed wire, makes them think they look tough(er) (in the case of linebackers)

I'm pretty sure I saw this on another training forum, I believe they are supposed to do something like compress an acupuncture point, but I can't remember any details and I'm not sure if from that they have just become a style accessory.

Apparently they are a fashion accessory only. Nike Bicep bands.

Alex,
I believe the brace or strip is to prevent carpet burns from the artificial surface.

The sleeved ones should prevent artificial turf burns, not the skinny strips.
