I have a nice bottle of red wine from the Veneto region of Italy, where I currently live, for the person who can most closely guess the outcome of this game.

To enter the contest simply reply to this message and place your prediction in the subject line.

An acceptable entry would be: "Notre Dame 55, Ohio State 7" or whatever. The one who chooses the correct winner and a score that is the closest to the actual final score will win. If the winner is not a wine drinker then I will find something else from Italy for them.

The game is in the afternoon on 2nd of December. Good luck!

I'll even tell you how they'll score: ND will score 3 TDs in the first 3 quarters, one early in the fourth. OSU will score none in the first half, score two late in the third quarter/early in the fourth, go for two twice and make it.

Wine gives me heartburn, but a Ferrari would be nice. It's okay if it's used (2003 or later).

BTW, did anyone else here Papa Paterno diss his FG kicker in an interview? No pressure there the next time he has a chance to kick one, huh? I think I'd wet my pants if Paterno did that to me in an interview.

I'll play...anyone seen the movie "Sideways"? Pinot is the way to go! Since ND almost beat the Trojans, I pick them as well.

2nd of December

Is that right????

OSU 21
ND 15

and it will only be that close because the referees always favor ND, and their fans just cant see it.

2nd of January paul. And of course the refs favor ND, and especially against OSU. Since Woody Hayes left osu, it's been a second tier program.

Pow! Down goes the gauntlet!

Nothing... but it is only proper etiquette to root passionately against Notre Dame. The fact that I once spent a weekend at -the- Ohio State University and I know what a Buckeye is - just a bonus. It was very wise of someone to teach me what a Buckeye is very early on during my weekend there, as the rest of it became a blur...

Paul,
How about the Reggie Bush push of Matt Leinert into the end zone at the game this year? I didn't see the refs call that one and you never heard Charlie Weiss or coaching staff complain about it. Also, the fact that ND is an independent means that it always has refs from opposing conferences. How can they favor ND? You are crazy.

I am crazy?

I knew this one was coming.

If you watched the play BEFORE the Reggie Bush push into the end zone, which, BTW, has never ever never been called. Although there is a 'foul' called 'helping the runner' it is only used when someone GRABS ONTO the runner and lifts them where it has ever been called. In my experience of watching way too much football, I have seen it called once, in the late 80s, in an NFL game. The O lineman lifted up the runner and tried to toss him over a pile.

Anyhow, the play before, Lienart is on his way into the endzone and the ball falls out. It flies out of bounds. A fumble out of bounds would have had the ball set at about the 3 or 4. BUT, it would also have stopped the clock. That is, the clock would have stopped, the ball placed at the 3 (or the 4 or the 5), but the clock would have stopped. There would have been more than 10 seconds on this stopped clock, granting Leinart and Bush 2 or 3 tries to get into the end zone legit.

ND should not even be in the game. Other teams rated much higher deserved their spot. Specifically Oregon whose only flaw was to lose ONCE to USC... no favoritism there.

If your argument were correct about refs favoring ND then the foul would have been called a push and ND would have won the game. I have watched this play over and over on the computer. Also, on the play before when Leinart was knocked out of bounds, the ball shot backwards and should have been spotted at about the 3 yard line. Instead it was placed at about the half yard line. Thanks refs. At this point SC had no time outs and would have had to kick the field goal.

You shouldn't blame ND for being in the bowl game. Instead, you should blame the Fiesta Bowl. They are the ones who picked ND over Oregon. Lastly, shouldn't you be more upset about WV and FSU making it to bowl games? Those are the teams that in my opinion should not be there.

The best way to gauge two teams is by a common opponent. ND and Oregon both played USC, who has arguably the best college team ever. Oregon lost 45-13 (almost 5 touch downs and nearly 600 yards of total offense) while ND lost on a freak last second play.

I also like Oregon's schedule playing the power houses of Montana, Houston and a two win team of Washington. Oregon has the better team, give me a break.
