Hello,
I have always looked at advertisements that seem to promote devices that people can sleep with to treat plantar fasciitis. I have tried to find articles that discuss the effectiveness of using these devices with very little success. Can you help me find out where I can find them? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Dear jma,

A quick PubMed search revealed the following:
1. Studies in support of splints for plantar fasciitis (Batt et al 1996, Mizel et al 1996, Powell et al 1998, Wapner & Sharkey 1991)

2. One study finding no difference in combination with 'standard treatment' (Probe et al 1999)

While I've just scanned the abstracts, some methodological problems seem to exist, but on the balance it appears the evidence to date is in favor of including the use of a night splint in conjunction with other modalities.

Does anyone have more insight into this than I?

Brad Stevens

Thank you for the information. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I will also look into the companies themselves for their research into their products. Great tips. Thanks.
