John M. Duffy is experiencing a mistaken identity by current patients.  The attorney general has attempted to reduce the confusion.  Chances are that John is experiencing the ramifications of the mistaken identity by others.  By name alone, John may experience business ramifications.  John P. Duffy was charged with possession of child pornography.

John, I can't imagine what it would be like to be a male charged with child pornography.  It blows my mind that you, although perfectly innocent, (and your family) might be experiencing the mistaken wrath of others.  You removed the area on your site to contact you, so I figured I'd give you a short note to acknowledge that your life has to be stressful and horrible right now.

If it helps any, I'm pretty sure that people do forget.  In this situation if it was memorable enough to them, well, what will be remembered was that there was something screwy where 2 men had the same name in the same locale.... and then it might become somewhat of a joke, although a not very funny one because you'll be fielding questions for quite some time.  Hang in there!.... Hey, when are you retiring?

I just got home and my wife told me you called SJ, so thank you very much for your support

Basically what happened:

Monday, a patient came in, noting that it was just on the news that John Duffy of Carnegie (1 mile from my clinic), an ESPN commentator, was arrested for kiddie porn.  By the next day, my picture and the profile section of my website was on blogs with the article, and also being circulated as an email titled "Pervert".  The profile notes that I have served as a commentator on ESPN, so anybody that punched up JOHN DUFFY ESPN would get my site, and seeing that I practice in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh, and were too fu-king stupid and ignorant to do a little more reading.  So, they just launched this stuff.

I then had to go on the offensive and contact the papers and news.  SJ posted one newspaper article, and here is another:

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/cityregion/s_519001.html

A news crew came and interviewd me, putting it as the headline story on the 11pm news.  Fortunately, I had just finished treating one of their reporters, and she immediately mobilized her army to help.  To view the video, click the below link, and then under SEARCH type in "mistaken", and the video is the one dated 7/27 with a blank profile of a head/shoulders.

http://kdka.com/video

I've had patients say that their co-workers asked why they are still taking their daughter to me, another was not going to come back but a co-worker was a patient, and knew the criminal John Duffy, and reassured her that I was OK.  My neighbors mailbox across the street got smashed off it's post yesterday, and my caseload has dropped a ton.

Not sure how things will pan out, and how much business I have lost/will lose.  Fortunately the authorities realized what was occurring and put out a picture of this dick to help clear things up.

Of course I'd call.  You and your family were on my mind.  I was actually surprised your wife answered because I was expecting no one to answer the phone - but I got lucky and didn't have to figure out what I'd say to an answering machine.  LOL

Duff, it'll all work out in the end... give it a month and things will get back to close to normal.  IF you wanted to be even more proactive, have NovaCare do a query in their database of all the patients you have treated and are currently treating.  Send out a quick postcard mailing or letter mailing to all those patients that is kind and explanatory in nature to clear your name while including a photo of the other guy who was arrested and released on bail.  You could even have that mailing be helpful for those receiving the letter:  1) the public can go to whatever internet site for your state and type in their zip code to see sex offenders in their area AND 2) the internet site for looking up licensed providers to see if the provider has any reports or whatever against them.  End the mailing mentioning something about public safety being a priority and trusting NovaCare and staff or even you to provide services in the future.  NovaCare might not want to financially spend $$$ on this matter, but the long term result of a mailing like that if done the right way would actually increase the trust and loyalty of your customers.  In other words, turn a negative into an educational positive... have them do it sooner than later though for it to have the type of effect desired on the public/previous customers.

Duff... since I know your head has to be spinning and you'd have a very defensive edge combined with anger with anything you'd want to say... check your email and you'll find a nice, polite letter that someone can clean up and NovaCare send to those in your community.  Turn the negative into something positive and useful for the public.    It'll become a win-win situation.

Well that is horrible. I hate to say it but this is another reason I never thought of for using the alias when on the web.

Everything will work itself out of course...but what a tough thing to face. Hang in there John.

John,

What a terrible injustice. I pray this nightmare ends for you quickly. Good luck and let us know if there is anything we can all do for you.

Such an unfortunate circumstance. Your pts will return. It just shows how ignorant some people can be as they judge before knowing the truth. I wish you and your family the best.

Duff,

I just watched the video link you posted.  Man...I hope all of this blows over soon and I think it will as more people learn of the truth.  We'll keep you and your family in our prayers.

Thanks for all the kind and supportive words guys, I really appreciate it.  SJ sent me a nice letter to mail out to patients, and notes that when this idiot goes on trial, the whole thing may start over again.

Chris, love the pic on your avetar.  I have one I want to use, the the site limits it to such a small size it's hard to find anything that will work.  Won't re-use the Guinness drinking pic from EIM.
