Motor Therapies: The Evidence-Base for Pediatric Physical Therapy Treatments
Andrew M. Ball, PT(MS), Ph.D., MBA

For those of you interested in DScPT level coursework, I will be providing a portion of my Evidence-Based Practice in Pediatric Physical Therapy course through CEUWorld.com. The CEUWorld.com online continuing education format allows for the participant to view the PowerPoint lecture titled, “Motor Therapies: The Evidence-Base for Pediatric Physical Therapy Treatments,” complete a short quiz, and earn .5 CEU’s (approved through the Texas board).

Course Objectives:
* The learner will familiarize himself/herself with several commonly used physical and occupational therapy techniques aimed at improving motor outcomes in children with special needs: NeuroDevelopmental therapy, Sensory Integration therapy, CranioSacral therapy, Pediatric Myofascial Release, Partial Weight Bearing Gait Training over Treadmill (a.k.a body weight support therapy), Conductive Education, and Simple Stretching techniques. Each will be critically reviewed. The course focuses attention on the evidence-base for various techniques used in pediatric physical therapy, a necessary pre-requisite to devoting time to learning the artistic clinical art of any of the techniques presented.
* The learner will gain an appreciation for taking relevant published research regarding the efficacy of motor therapies, and how to incorporate this information into daily practice in a manner that optimizes therapeutic outcomes.
