Hello,
I have a question regarding the differences between documenting WFL and WNL with respect to range of motion. For example, one does not need 180 degrees of shoulder flexion to reach an object in a cabinet. A range of about 160 degrees is considered to be functional for reaching. If this has always been the case, why am I seeing WFL and WNL being used as if they are synonyms? Has something changed that I am not aware of or is the difference between them not as significant anymore? Studies based on this would be appreciated. Thank you for your rapid response.

The terms should not be used as synonyms. They are different. For example, functional range of motion at the hip is about 90 degrees to allow sitting upright. The normal range is about 135 degrees. Therapists should be aware of the differences. I have not really seen anyone use them interchangeably.
I am not aware of studies off of the top of my head but I haven't done a search Too early in the morning for me

Hello mcap,
Thank you for clearing the matter. Thats what I thought as well. I see now where the confusion is. I don't see them documenting what function they are measuring. If they put down what you did for the hip then it makes perfect sense. If you find any studies about them, please let me know. Thank you for your reply
