Hello, I am currently an undergrad student applying to pt programs. I was curious about the different areas of specialty associated with PT (eg. Ortho, pediatric, etc.) Also, are there any specific places to volunteer to get exposure to these different areas of interest for PTs? Thanks!

Hello, Yes, there are other specialties and they can be found in detail in the American Physical Therapy Association website at: http://www.apta.org
In terms of volunteering in specific places. Many big hospitals are specialized with various specialties. The best way to find out is to look them up, ie the yellow pages and see what they offer. At least many if not some, have a combination of peds, ortho, acute care, etc. For example, here in NY, we have a hospital called the Hospital for Joint Diseases where I volunteered at one point. There they had peds, acute, ortho, pain management, sports, aqua therapy and was a very good place to learn things. This was a specialized, not a general hospital. I'm sure you can find a similar one in your area. Good luck in your search
