As money seems to be an issue with "stocking" our treatment room, or our trunks for that matter with home visits... would anyone like to share ideas they have come up with to get around purchasing certain expensive items... a way that you make use of "household items" therapeutically? I have become a big fan of the dollar store....to help add to my "bag of tricks"

For example... I sometimes use a small hand held dust pan with my little guys... I place it upside down and have them stand on it... either one way for a heel cord stretch... or I've used it to help kids get used to weight bearing in a plantar flexed position/prepping for toe standing, etc...

Another example is birthday hats... rather than cones... use them for goals to kick through, for scooters/tricycles to weave through..... etc...

I'd be interested in hearing of anyone elses ideas they have come up with along the way. Does anyone know of a book that talks of that? I've seen it for OT related work, more fine motor..... but I thought it'd be neat to discuss...

I make all kinds of positioning equipment (e.g. corner chairs, sidelyers, Rx tables), out of the hard cardboard boxes. That lasts about 6 months.

Also, local high school woodworking shops can help with the construction of things that are a little more sturdy. Prison workshops are a good resouce too.
