Howdy, folks.
I'm a PTA working primarily in an acute/subacute inpatient rehab department. My fiancee was recently diagnosed with costochondritis. Unfortunately, the MD she saw is known for rarely prescribing PT, and all she was given were pain meds and anti-inflammatory meds. Through research I've found that PT is often prescribed for this. I asked the PT I work with about treatments for this, and he had mentioned that he'd read that US and phonophoresis were rather effective in treating costochondritis, but had never treated it himself.
Just wondering if any of you have had any experience with this condition, and what treatments were effective.
Thanks in advance, djf

djf, For me personally 25-50 mg of Vioxx QD has helped the most. I had a local injection initially that helped a bit for while, but left me with some steroid atrophy. Phonophoresis helped some too but not as much as the Vioxx. Also laying off the bench press and decreasing the weight on flies helped too. If I can find some references I'll add to the posts. Betty
